Marking Time
This week we feel like time is moving very slowly after the frenetic pace we set since we arrived. We have Theodores and his daughter Elani re- caulking the teak in the cockpit and at the moment there is a nasty black looking goop all over the lovely Teak. They masked it up first so when the tape is removed there will just be nice black rubber lines between the teak and after sanding back will be lovely and smooth to walk on. We plan to leave it natural so that it ages gracefully turning a beautiful silver and only requiring cleaning with salt water and a scrubbing brush.
We have been trying to source quotes from people to re-upholster the saloon. I’m not keen on the bright blue Bavaria original vinyl, which I must say has worn very well. The back cushions have been previously redone in a cream fabric which has come to the end of it’s life. It looks ok in the photos but in reality is quite tired. We are looking at something in a lighter colour which is more modern. We are also changing the navy blue dodger and bimini which are near their use by dates also. Nice to get fresh new canvas. We’re also adding solar panels and dinghy davits so this weekend we have been prowling the docks checking out the most ergonomic stainless steel arch designs. The steel fabricator is due at midday to give us a quote to make the arch which will incorporate dinghy davits for hauling and storing the dingy out of the water – making life much easier.
We moved out of our lovely Air BnB on Saturday and shlepped all our belongings onto the tram and down to the boat. We’ve spent the weekend settling in and organising storage. With only two of us on board storage is not as tight as I had thought it would be.
The galley (kitchen) is well laid out with 2 fridges and a double bowl sink.
Our master cabin with ensuite is very spacious (for a boat!) well ventilated and the bed is comfortable. There is a 2nd head (bathroom) which is also large enough with an electric pump toilet and seperate shower cubicle – quite a luxury (I can just hear some of my girlfriends thinking I’m mad using the word ‘Luxury’ in the same sentence as 42 ft ‘Yacht’ !)
