The Adventure Begins ….

It’s actually inaccurate to say that this is the beginning of our sailing adventures – more a continuation after a 17 year hiatus.

We  were introduced to the possibility of a change in lifestyle back in 2000 by our good friends and fellow sailors, Rod and Kerry Waterhouse  who said ….

Buy a boat in USA and sail it home to Oz?  – easy

Schooling for 2 pre-teens ? – Australia has the best distance education system – tick

Money ? – work out how much you need for 18 months away and borrow it – tick

Ocean passage-making experience? – this one you can only get by ‘doing’ it – tick

.. so we rented out the house, organised all the above and, as a family, had the adventure of a lifetime sailing from Virginia, USA back to Australia over 15 months.

Plenty of research prior to leaving meant we were able to sell our boat (MAGIC IV, a Jeanneau Sun Magic 44) within a short period of our return, repay the bank loan and resume ‘normal’ life.

The wanderlust has never left us so about 5 years ago we decided to start planning to take off again on our next stage sailing adventure – sans enfants this time around.
