Welcome to Greece

“The best laid plans of Mice and Men often go awry”     Robbie Burns – To a Mouse

We were planning on selling our Prince Alfred Parade home of 27 years during the latter part of 2017 prior to leaving for the  Mediterranean  but market conditions worked against us and we decided to convert our rental property (Nullaburra) into an upper duplex and a lower duplex. 1st change in plans

The plan we had formulated during 2016/2017 was to buy a 40+ foot catamaran, sail the Mediterranean for a few seasons then see where we wanted to go next. That plan changed to buying an older  monohull under 39 feet which we would not feel too precious about when the uncaring European boaters bump into you and generally take no care. Also easier on the pocket for mooring and storing. 2nd change in plans

Now that we are here in Athens we’ve discovered that most of the boats which were for sale earlier and did not sell over winter have either been put back in to charter or are being used over summer by their owners. The choices are much less than we had been led to believe – now the prospect of a 42 ft Bavaria is being seriously considered with an offer being made this week. 3rd change in plans

If nothing else, this exercise is teaching us to be flexible and have patience …

We found exactly the same thing when we visited in May looking to view some yachts. Ended up driving to Preveza to look at a few but most had like you said gone sailing or back to charter. Luckily we were not in a hurry and went back earlier this month (Nov), much more choice but ended up making an offer on a Bavaria 43 in France!
