Month: May 2018

What a difference a week makes.

We arrived in Athens last Thursday and since then  have been running.

Fri – Meeting  with Broker

Sat – Looked  at Boats – Climbed Acropolis and Parthenon

Mon – Made an offer – subject to survey

Spent the afternoon at the new Acropolis museum – an interactive look at the history of the acropolis with thousands of pieces of the Parthenon on display. Pieces which have been restored from fragments found resemble the most complicated jigsaws. The museum is built over archaeological diggings which can be seen a couple of metres below through the glass floors.

Tue- Completed survey and rigging inspection, then moved from Marina Alimos Apartmet Hotel to a lovely 2 Bedroom apartment in Neo Smiri – half way between the marina and the city. Outside the door runs an  excellent tram service with trams every 10 minutes from the  city to the marina.

Wed – Survey results structurally fine but many cosmetic fixes needed. Negotiated offer

Thu – Signed contract. Deposit paid. Work quotes sorted.

Celebration dinner on the balcony –

Acropolis and Parthenon view from our apartment

Fri – Made a start on the masses of paperwork to transfer ownership

Workmen lined up to start Monday on cosmetic fixes which should all be done by Friday when we will move aboard.

Just breathhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Interesting fact:

We’ve done a lot of walking through the  neighborhood streets and have found that many are lined with orange trees. Seems like the wrong time of year but most are laden with ripe fruit and in some cases they make quite a mess on the footpaths and roads. Being good foragers we thought we’d try a couple because they were so plentiful only to find they were the most sour oranges I’ve ever tasted. If only I had some jars I could make excellent marmalade.
